How to Track a Letter After You Mail It Online

Your tracking number arrives by email. Use it to check delivery status whenever you need to.

When you send a Certified or flat letter online, you receive a tracking number by email. Use that number on the /track page to see where your letter is and when it arrives.

That is the whole process. No dashboard to log into, no account portal to check. The tracking number comes to your inbox, and you paste it into the tracker whenever you want to see the delivery status.

What you get with tracking

Certified and flat letters sent through the service include a tracking number; a First-Class letter does not. When your letter is printed and handed off to the postal service, a tracking number is generated. That number is emailed to you immediately.

The tracking number is yours to keep and share. If you need to confirm delivery to a client or colleague, you can give them the number and they can check the status themselves on the /track page.

How to use your tracking number

Open the email with your tracking number. Copy the number. Go to the /track page and paste it into the search field. You will see the current status of your letter—whether it has been picked up, is in transit, or has been delivered.

Check it as many times as you want. The status updates as the carrier processes and delivers the mail.

What the tracking tells you

Tracking shows you the major milestones: when the letter entered the mail stream, when it arrived at regional facilities, and when it was delivered. The level of detail depends on the carrier's scanning practices at each facility.

Tracking will show you actual delivery, not an estimate.

If your letter does not arrive

If tracking shows your letter is stuck or delayed, contact customer service at (302) 591-7771, Mon-Fri 9-6 ET. Have your tracking number ready. The team can investigate with the carrier and help you figure out what happened.

If a letter is marked as undeliverable, the carrier returns it to the sender. The tracking number will reflect that status.

Why tracking matters for your sends

When you mail a batch of letters, tracking lets you confirm the drop actually happened. For business sends—customer win-backs, cold outreach, follow-ups—you can verify that your mail reached the postal service and is on its way. That is your proof that the campaign ran.

For single letters, tracking gives you peace of mind. You know when it arrives, and the recipient can confirm they received it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I track multiple letters at once?

Yes. Each Certified or flat letter you send gets its own tracking number emailed to you. Paste each number into the /track page individually to check its status.

How long does tracking take to update?

The carrier updates tracking as mail moves through the system. Updates depend on the carrier's scanning practices at each facility.

Can I give my tracking number to someone else?

Yes. Anyone can use your tracking number on the /track page to check delivery status. It is useful if you need to confirm to a client or recipient that the letter is on its way.

What if my tracking number shows the letter is lost?

Contact customer service at (302) 591-7771, Mon-Fri 9-6 ET with your tracking number. They can investigate with the carrier and help determine what happened.
